In his latest interview on BBC Radio Tees with hosts Phil Chapman and Amy Leas, author Matthew Hirtes (Going Local in Gran Canaria) talks about why he moved to Gran Canaria, the challenges he faced, and how to make a new place feel like home.
Some of his tips include learning the language and to rent and get used to your new country before you buy. Matthew, who was “very homesick initially”, started to feel more at home as he built up a network and improved his Spanish – and when he started playing football with a local team.
