Canadian-born Anne O’Connell, author of @home in Dubai: Getting connected online and on the ground (Summertime, 2011), lived in the US and then Dubai for many years and is now based in Phuket, Thailand. After her latest trip to Dubai, in February, to promote her book, Anne reflects on what makes ‘home’. She writes: “A realisation came flooding in, as I was wined and dined, housed and loved by so many Dubai friends, that home is not only where the heart is (mine is spread all over the world) but also where you are at peace.”
For Anne, a sense of peace – and thus home – stems from many things: her childhood home (where her mother still lives) in Halifax, Canada; with her husband and cat, Zorro – in whichever country they all happen to be; with good friends in Dubai…
