9781904881711-Expat Life Cover.inddBlogExpat.com regularly interviews expat authors about their expat experiences and how they got to publishing their books. Recently BlogExpat chatted to Apple Gidley, author of Expat Life: Slice by Slice (Summertime Publishing, 2012).

Asked what her perception is of the expat book market, Gidley replies: “I believe there is a slow acceptance by booksellers and publishers that expatriate writing is a distinct category not to be tagged onto travel writing, though of course there is an overlap.”

Gidley also reveals that she’s working on a rewrite of her novel The Twittering of Sparrows and that she has been doing research for a second novel, loosely based on her mother’s early life in Australia, and later in Malaya and Papua New Guinea during the war. “The research for this book has been absolutely fascinating,” she says, “and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
