TERE (303 x 500)It’s always interesting from both a professional and personal perspective for one expat author to read the work of another. Recently Lindsay de Feliz, author of What About Your Saucepans?, picked up a copy of Linda A Janssen’s The Emotionally Resilient Expat, a handbook for developing the kinds of life skills that can see you through international relocations and help you thrive while you’re at it.

De Feliz has read a number of expat-related books but often finds she cannot relate to them “perhaps because I did not move with a travelling spouse or the fact that  I do not have children and face the special problems that that brings with it.”

Janssen’s book, however, was the exception... Read her full review, which concludes with: “When you finish it you cannot help but feel more positive and uplifted. You can choose to be optimistic – one of the great attractions of Dominicans: ‘Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.'”

The Emotionally Resilient Expat: Engage, Adapt and Thrive Across Cultures is published by Summertime Publishing (2013).
